Tasting Notes

Intense and exotic, our 2009 Origami is bursting with complex aromas of black and red cherries, cassis and boysenberries, with nuances of pipe tobacco, baker's spices and wet stones. This wine is classically-structured, with rich fruit and dense tannins on entry and graceful mid-palate volume. Lengthy fruit with pitch-perfect acidity complete the experience.

Winemaking Notes

The 2009 Origami, a new wine available exclusively at the winery, is named for the Japanese sculptural craft created through the precise decorative folding of paper. In a similar vein, this wine attempts to fold together a unique luxurious blend of Bordeaux varieties demonstrating a perfected multi-dimensional blend for the vintage. Our 2009 Origami achieves power and structure from its high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, lifted up and driven with a goodly representation of Cabernet franc, and then tempered and rounded through judicious additions of Merlot and Malbec. This complex wine demonstrates a panoply of heady aromas derived from its component parts together with ripe tannins, broad mid-palate volume and a refined yet persistent finish. Bottling of this wine occurred after 15 months aging in 38% new French oak barrels, which added structural support while preserving the wine's bold and distinctive fruit flavors.
